The video does not provide specific instructions on what to do in every situation; instead it provides the viewer with options and encourages the viewer to develop a “survival mindset.” The Center for Personal Protection and Safety is responsible for this instructional DVD and training program designed to empower students with knowledge and strategies for preventing and surviving an active shooter situation.

For a more in-depth presentation on the “Shots Fired on Campus” video and Active Shooter and Extreme Violence Awareness, please contact Lieutenant Ron Godby at [email protected] 847-467-0654.

The Blotter is updated and published Monday - Friday and contains reported criminal and non-criminal incidents.

The Office of Risk Management maintains a public fire log documenting reported fires occurring in Chicago or Evanston on-campus student housing facilities.

The log typically provides general incident information including date the fire was reported, nature of the fire, date and time of the fire and the location of the fire.

The Report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies on drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.

You can obtain a copy of this Report by contacting the Northwestern University Police Department Deputy Chief at (847) 491-3256.

Other components include the Campus Violence Prevention Plan, Campus Violence Prevention Committee, Emergency Response Framework and the Behavioral Consultation Team (threat assessment).

As provided by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, now known as the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, you are entitled to request and receive a copy of Northwestern University's Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

This Report includes statistics for the previous 3 years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Northwestern University; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus.

The Report can also be accessed and printed from the University Police website.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stay informed about safety and crime on campus. The “Shots Fired on Campus” video is a part of our overall prevention, preparedness, and response plan for incidents of extreme violence.

A daily crime log (Blotter) is available for review 24 hours a day on the Northwestern University Police (UP) website and via a lobby kiosk at the UP stations in Chicago (211 E.

Superior Street) and Evanston (1819 Hinman Avenue).
