Since Windows 8.1 doesn't seem to have the usual wireless settings, I tried doing it via cmd.
Wireless security is the prevention of unauthorized access or damage to computers using wireless networks.
WPA2 uses an encryption device that encrypts the network with a 256-bit key; the longer key length improves security over WEP.
Many laptop computers have wireless cards pre-installed.
The risks to users of wireless technology have increased as the service has become more popular.
There were relatively few dangers when wireless technology was first introduced.
The ability to enter a network while mobile has great benefits. However, wireless networking is prone to some security issues. The most common types of wireless security are Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). The password it uses can often be cracked in a few minutes with a basic laptop computer and widely available software tools.WEP is an old IEEE 802.11 standard from 1999, which was outdated in 2003 by WPA, or Wi-Fi Protected Access.
When I check the status, it says I am connected to the internet with excellent signal strength. The wireless icon in the right hand corner shows a dark blue screen with gray waves coming out of it (however when I can get online this icon usually shows as a flashing bright blue screen with green waves coming out of it.) I have connected to this router in the past with no problems, however I was recently traveling with my laptop and connecting to hotel internets, and I’m wondering if somehow some of the settings got changed.
For the network at my University I have to set wireless authentication to WPA2-Enterprise using TKIP encryption.
